How would you translate this? This is the explanation I found:
一條衣帶那樣狹窄的水。指雖有江河湖海相隔，但距離不遠，不足以成為交往的阻礙。

Does that mean it can only be used when talking about geography? Or does it have a more metaphorical meaning?
