I get what you're saying and it makes sense with your example--it’s my example that's bad; without using the actual verbiage from a survey (proprietary info so can't use it), the question’s multiple choice answers are something like: always; sometimes; never. Ergo, not sure if HOW MANY TIMES can substitute for HOW OFTEN.
Another question example could be: HOW OFTEN do you feel annoyed when ads come on when you're streaming videos? This is a question where a “number of times” doesn't seem appropriate.
It seems the typical Mandarin usage of "多少时” may have to do--it just doesn't seem to flow all that well in Cantonese. Hmm, maybe "幾多时" is the ticket...
