According to the National Museum in Kuala Lumpur, Dragon Boat Racing has it's roots originating in Thailand.
In addition, many Tai speaking societies of Southwest China and Southern China also celebrate Dragon Boat Racing...some with even more gusto then what we in the West experience.
For the modern day Cantonese to still continue this ancient celebratory tradition, is just evidence that Tai culture still permeates through modern Cantonese Yue culture which we today associates as Han culture.
