What do 小亞 or 小亚 mean?

What do 小亞 or 小亚 mean, without other characters in the end of the string? Can they mean "Little Asia"?

I know that 小亚洲 means little Asia, but what if I omit the last character?

Well, 明蝦球means shrimp ball, usually in stir fry dishes. 百花球usually means shrimp paste balls, you first grind or pound the shrimp or crab or lobster. Then mix with flour, make it shape the paste into small balls and you get yourself some 百花球. As for 龍鳳球, it usually means shrimp or lobster and chicken, because 龍 is dragon, so somehow like shrimp and 鳯 Phoenix, which is a metaphor (?) to chicken. I don't know if this applies to UK but at least this is correct in HK LOL.

皇is usually an adj to make it look more superior or better quality. Another reason is that you might see that almost every dish name has similar length 7 to 8 characters. The added adjs keep the symmetry or simply, for the looks.
About 金鉤翅or大生翅，I think the first one is usually used togenerally talk about shark fin intact or not. But 大生翅 is specifically used talk about shark fin that is broken up. The theory is that restaurants don't like 散翅 saan2 ci3(broken up or scattered shark fin), and changed to a synophone 生翅sang1ci3。

Hi all!

Been a while since I last posted... for those around, just curious if anyone has heard of the phrase "jat1 ce(k) dou3/6 hau2" (一**口) which are the approximate tones. I'm hoping that since it's a phrase, it can be guessed upon without context. (it was used to describe someone who has been calling on the phone quite a bit).

What's not funny is that they could be negatively impacting an entire livelihood of many reputable tattoo artists who depend on this art as their only source of income to put food on the table for their children. I believe in Karmic retribution.

I was wondering if anyone heard of the word ding6 or deng6 (not sure if "i" vs "e"..but fairly certain it's ding6). It was used to describe a baby who was spitting out his pacifier (a baby who was not 啜 his pacifier). From the context I could figure out was that it was either to spit out or to form the shape of the mouth so as to not 啜 the pacifier. Has anyone heard anything of this? Hopefully someone can share some insight! Thanks :)


Are you sure it was used as a verb? Was it an adjective? I think 定 ding6 [www.cantonese.sheik.co.uk] might fit. Meaning the pacifier was unstable because the baby was spitting it out.

I think it can. 亞 can be short for 亞洲, which is short for the dated 亞細亞, which was borrowed from Latin and Greek.

Hello. What is the Chinese term for a street that is circle-shaped, or very often half-circle?

I do NOT mean the traffic circle here. I mean something that is "circle" in English street names and addresses.

I personally can't recall any specific word in Chinese because Chinese, in general, don't like circular streets. However, if you are thinking of cul-de-sac, which is usually called "dead end" among English speakers, then you say 崛頭路 (literally: blunt-ended road).

but 突破盲腸 is sort of a slang to say 突破盲點, as 盲腸 means the appendix, so 突破盲腸 originally makes no sense, but people made fun of it and created a new version of the term
